Electric Manufacturing Engineer (EV Systems)

Location: California (On-site / Hybrid)
Type: Full-Time
Department: Engineering & Manufacturing

We are seeking a hands-on Electric Manufacturing Engineer to design, integrate, and validate electrical and electronic systems for electric vehicles. This role has primary responsibility for systems end-to-end—from schematics and wiring, through controls and code, to vehicle-level functionality and manufacturing readiness.

This is not a paper-only design role and not a pure software role. You will be expected to build, wire, program, debug, and validate real vehicle systems in prototype and pilot-production environments.

This role has primary responsibility of vehicle electrical system integration but does not operate in isolation; mechanical, software, and supplier teams support execution.

Core Responsibilities

Electrical Architecture & Schematics

  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness definitions.

  • Define low-voltage and high-voltage architectures, including power distribution, grounding, and protection strategies.

  • Ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and production-ready.

EV System Integration & Ownership

Own and integrate electrical systems including:

  • Battery packs and BMS interfaces

  • Drive systems (motors, inverters, controllers)

  • HVAC systems (electric compressors, heaters, controls)

  • Exterior and interior lighting systems

  • Vehicle power distribution, charging interfaces, and diagnostics

  • Ensure correct CAN/LIN communication, signal integrity, and system interoperability.

Controls, Firmware & Logic

  • Write, modify, and validate embedded or control-level code required to operate electrical systems.

  • Configure controllers, logic states, fault handling, and diagnostics.

  • Support firmware flashing, calibration, and system bring-up.

  • Debug software-hardware interaction issues at the vehicle level.

Manufacturing, Build & Validation

  • Support prototype builds, pilot manufacturing, and early production ramps.

  • Diagnose electrical and software issues directly on vehicles.

  • Develop validation procedures, test plans, and troubleshooting documentation.

  • Work directly with manufacturing, suppliers, and integration teams to resolve issues rapidly.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive or EV electrical systems.

  • Proven experience creating schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness documentation.

  • Hands-on experience with battery systems, drive systems, or vehicle electronics.

  • Experience with CAN communication, diagnostics, and debugging tools.

  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, build-focused environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with EV battery packs and BMS architectures.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Altium, EPLAN, Vector CAN tools, or similar.

  • Experience supporting low-volume or early-stage vehicle production.

  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFA for electrical systems.

  • Ability to translate design intent into reliable, real-world vehicle execution.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Electrical systems function correctly on first-build vehicles.

  • Issues are diagnosed and resolved quickly at the system level.

  • Designs transition smoothly from prototype to controlled-volume production.

  • Manufacturing teams can build and service systems without rework.

This Role is Ideal for an Engineer Who

  • Designs systems and makes them work on real vehicles.

  • Is equally comfortable with schematics, wiring, code, and troubleshooting.

  • Understands that great EV engineering balances performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Thrives in environments where vehicles are actually being built.
